Module Description:
1. Foundation in Mathematics
Course length: 9 hours

Year: 2012 - 2013
This module will provide students the concepts, rules and methods of mathematics required for tertiary education. This module will equip students with numerical operations and computations that will further enable them to draw conclusions and predictions based on the outcome of their analysis. The topics covered will include operations, percentages, algebra, equation solving, exponents, linear equations, descriptive statistics, units and conversions. Topics on Statistics will include data presentation, numerical measures, descriptive statistics, normal and standardized distribution, hypothesis testing and linear regression & correlation.
2. Games Appreciation

This module introduces students to the general appreciation and analysis of the local and regional gaming markets. Student will be guided on a step by step walkthrough on the design consideration for a game and explore how player elements, the different types of platform, various genres relate to market needs. This module also looks at the basic techniques of creating compelling content such as the narrative (storytelling), the identity (characters), the experience (game play), the world (levels) and the atmosphere (visual effects and audio). This will prepare students with the needed fundamentals of game design for in-depth studies into Games creation.
3. Assets and Media Creation

This module introduces students in the creation of basic supporting visual assets through guided practices using essential software. Students will work individually to design creative content for use in animation and games. Software manipulation skills and design elements will be introduced to students to prepare students for in-depth studies on media. This module also allows students to gain valuable hands-on experience in the illustration of design elements, processing of digital imaging and creation of multimedia applications. At the end of the module, students will be able to create basic assets to support productions and to have a solid foundation to pursue further studies in their desired domains.
4. Market Research Studies
Course length: 9 hours

This module introduces students to the essential knowledge for conducting primary market surveys, from which key development decisions can be made. Students will evaluate the process and framework to conduct a basic market survey and to participate in a practical to analyze research findings. This module also allows students to gain valuable industry experience through guided data analysis from the industry. At the end of the module, students will be able to gain introductory understanding and appreciate how market research will influence the directions impacting the development of a game.
